Ice Cream Blisters was an American hardcore-punk and DIY cassette-culture band from the Kent/Akron area of Ohio. The group was active during the mid-1980s and released several cassette-only recordings through the home-tape label GGE Records.

History

The band was formed by Mike Crooker and Chris Mezzolesta, who were both active in the Northeast Ohio underground cassette scene. Ice Cream Blisters produced a number of lo-fi and experimental punk recordings using a mixture of traditional instruments, tape manipulation, and home-studio techniques.

One of their most noted releases is the cassette When Nature Fails, Art Steps In (1986). Another cassette, +/- (1987), combined punk aesthetics with experimental sound design, including synthesizers, wind instruments, and field recordings.

Though primarily a recording project, they are known to have performed at least one live show: a February 28, 1987 performance at JB’s Down Under in Kent, Ohio.
