How to Edit OHMS Wiki
This page explains **how to properly edit articles on OHMS Wiki**. All contributors are required to follow the **OHMS Wiki Editor Rulebook v6.0** exactly. Edits that do not comply may be reverted without notice. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}
This guide explains editing process, formatting, and editor responsibility. It does not replace the official rulebook, which remains authoritative.
Core Principle
OHMS Wiki is a museum-grade historical archive, not a fan site.
Every edit must be:
- Neutral in tone
- Fully verifiable through public documentation
- Properly formatted
- Written to Wikipedia-grade standards
If information cannot be verified, it must not be added.
Before You Edit
Before making any changes:
- Read the OHMS Wiki Editor Rulebook v6.0 in full :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
- Identify whether the page is:
- Verified
- PSD (Primary Source Documentation)
- Unbadged / legacy
- Treat all existing content as unverified unless sourced
Older pages are not assumed to be accurate.
Required Editing Workflow
Treat All Information as Leads
User submissions, band member statements, interviews, and legacy text are leads only, not confirmed facts.
Every claim must be verified using:
- Official artist, band, or label sources
- Reliable databases (Discogs, Bandcamp, MusicBrainz, AllMusic)
- Press coverage or interviews
- Archived documentation (flyers, zines, Wayback Machine)
If verification fails, the information is silently omitted.
Follow IFIX (Deep Research) Standards
All article builds and rebuilds follow IFIX standards:
- Verify every date, name, lineup, and release
- Preserve original spelling and stylization exactly
- Do not infer timelines or membership
- Do not correct artist formatting or grammar
Unverifiable details do not appear on the page.
Use the Required Section Order
Each page type has a mandatory section order. Sections must not be rearranged.
Musical group pages:
- Infobox
- Badges
- Lead
- History
- Legacy (optional)
- Members
- Discography
- External links
- References
- Categories
Musician pages:
- Infobox
- Badges
- Lead
- Career
- Legacy (optional)
- Projects
- Discography
- External links
- References
- Categories
External links must always appear above the References section.
Formatting Rules
Headings
- Use == Heading == and === Subheading === only
- Never bold or italicize headings
- No decorative symbols or punctuation
Lead Paragraph
- Bold the article subject once, on first mention only
- Do not bold other names or titles
- Summarize what the subject is and why it belongs in OHMS
Links & Titles
- All member names must be wikilinked
- Album titles must be italicized and linked
- Preserve documented spelling exactly
References & Citations
- All <ref> tags must appear before
<references group="" />
<references group="" />
must be the final section header
- External links must not contain references
- Do not use bare URLs
- Use approved OHMS citation templates only
Incorrect reference placement may break page rendering.
Categories & Sorting
- Categories appear at the very bottom of the page
- Include a state-level category when applicable
- City-level categories only when explicitly documented
- Never guess locations
- Use when required
Verified pages must use Verified category equivalents.
What Editors Must Not Do
Editors must never:
- Guess dates, locations, or lineups
- Add “unknown,” “TBA,” or placeholder text
- Use fan memory or message boards as sources
- Normalize or correct artist spelling or stylization
- Merge conflicting sources into a single narrative
- Add unverified releases to discographies
- Cite other wikis (except Wikipedia or Verified OHMS pages)
Legacy Pages
Many pages were imported from an older FANDOM installation.
These pages:
- Are not automatically reliable
- Must be rebuilt to v6.0 standards
- May temporarily lack badges during research
Accuracy always takes priority over preserving legacy text.
Editorial Responsibility
By saving an edit, you confirm that:
- Every included fact is publicly verifiable
- Formatting follows OHMS v6.0 exactly
- No information has been inferred or guessed
- The page is suitable for long-term historical preservation
OHMS Wiki documents history as it is recorded, not as it is remembered.
