Hate Dies Hard is an American rock band from Kent, Ohio. Active in the Northeast Ohio scene from the 1990s into the 2000s, the band combines alternative rock and metal influences with dramatic, riff-driven songwriting.

History

Hate Dies Hard formed in the Kent–Streetsboro area of Ohio in the mid-1990s around vocalist Sean Barringer and guitarist Steve Blankenship. Early local coverage described the band as an alternative rock group with an energetic, emotionally intense live show.

The group’s first full-length release, Denial, appeared in 1996 and introduced their heavy, melodic sound. A self-titled EP followed in the early 2000s, noted in local press as the band’s second EP and third overall release and drawing comparisons to avant-garde hard rock acts such as Tool and Dredg.

Hate Dies Hard later issued the album Neverending Sundown in 2006, expanding their sound with more atmospheric and progressive elements. By the late 2000s they had recorded another four-song EP, A Tension, tracked at Mars Recording and released with a Halloween show at the Outpost Concert Club in Kent. The EP’s songs, including “Blind” and “Last Laugh”, received regional attention in reviews and on local radio.

Singer–keyboardist Lili Roquelin joined Hate Dies Hard for a period in the 2000s, contributing vocals and keyboards alongside the existing lineup.
