Blackgrass Baptism
Template:000 - BandBlackgrass Baptism was an American blackgrass band from Cleveland, Ohio.
History
Blackgrass Baptism draws heavily from Americana, Roots, Folk, Bluegrass, and Country music, delivering it in a uniquely raucous energetic style. The band formed in early 2013 when Greg Kells (banjo, mandolin, and vocals) and Ant Petti (guitar, harmonica, vocals) began working on material. Both had been involved in punk rock/garage bands for many years and decided to go in a different direction, though that influence is still undeniable. Mrs. Carol Schulien (percussion, bass clarinet, vocals) joined soon after, with Matt Lindsey (AKA Lux Posterior) joining on bass to complete the original lineup. Each member brought years of experience in the Cleveland music scene to the table, giving them a built-in audience before they even ventured out of the rehearsal space. Right out of the gate, the band was overwhelmed with opportunities to play live and took as many of those opportunities as they could. After several months, Matt decided to cordially leave the band, so the decision was made to record an album with the original line-up before parting ways. After Matt’s departure Derek Poindexter came aboard and the band is currently working on a follow-up to this album, and performing regularly.
