History
False Hope originally started in 1982 after a lineup and name change from the earlier project Groin. The first incarnation under the False Hope name consisted of Chris Smith (bass), Bryan Lehr (drums), Robbie Spira (vocals), and Dana Embrose (guitar). <ref> False Hope. Retrieved 2025-11-17.

After a hiatus, the band re-formed in 1986 with Greg Cancassi (drums), Scott Eakin (guitar), Dave Evey (vocals) and Chris Smith (bass), recording the demo Cease to Exist at Beat Farm Studios. <ref> False Hope (USA) Cease To Exist; tape (1987). Retrieved 2025-11-17.

In 1987, Chris Smith shifted to guitar and Scott Silverman joined as second guitarist; Dave Araca joined on bass. In 1988, Greg Cancassi left; Dave Araca moved to drums and Sam Lopiccolo joined on bass. This lineup (Evey, Smith, Araca, Lopiccolo) recorded the demo Guilty of Everything in 1989 along with other unreleased tracks in 1990. <ref> False Hope (USA) Cease To Exist; tape (1987)

After vocalist Dave Evey left in 1990, the remaining members evolved into the band Asphalt. <ref> False Hope – Encyclopaedia Metallum
