Welcome to the OHMS Wiki

OHMS Wiki is an online encyclopedia for the Ohio music scene — and anyone can edit it.

Every band, artist, venue, label, zine, and fan connects here in one way or another. One person from a band starts another band with someone from another band, and so on. You’ll be amazed at how everyone is linked through this web of Ohio music history.

Our goal is to collect, track, and preserve information about the bands, artists, and people who have shaped the Ohio music scene — past and present. Much of what’s gathered here has never been available in one place before.

We invite you to come in, look up your band, and stay for hours. Follow the threads. Make connections. Add what you know.

How to Explore

  • Blue links lead to existing pages.
  • Red links are pages we don’t have yet — but you can create them.
  • The more pages and links we build together, the clearer the picture of the Ohio Music Scene becomes.

This is where the fun begins. Dive in, edit freely, and help build the living map of Ohio’s sound.

📌 Accuracy of Content

This project is a labour of love. A constant "Work in Progress". We have tried to provide the most accurate content available as much as possible. Many of the pages contain incomplete information as the bands are in a state of constant change.

The OHMS Wiki documents the history of the Ohio music scene with museum-level archival standards.

To preserve accuracy while also representing lesser-known and underground artists, OHMS Wiki uses a strict Three-Tier Verification System:

🟩 1. Verified Content (Independent Sources)

Pages marked with the {{OhioArtistVerified}} badge contain information backed by publicly accessible, independent, third-party sources such as:

  • Newspaper and magazine articles
  • Interviews
  • Venue calendars and flyers
  • Music databases (Discogs, MusicBrainz, AllMusic)
  • Liner notes and archival recordings
  • Streaming metadata
  • Archive.org collections
  • Official websites and public posts

A page receives this badge only when all major facts—origin, lineup, dates, releases—are fully supported by independent evidence.

This is the highest standard of accuracy on the OHMS Wiki.

🟨 2. Primary Source Documentation (PSD)

Pages marked with the {{OhioArtistPSD}} badge use publicly attributed primary sources provided directly by:

  • Band members
  • Former members
  • Managers or crew
  • Labels
  • Photographers or collaborators
  • Anyone directly involved in the project

To qualify, primary-source information must be:

  • Publicly viewable (not private messages)
  • Attributable to a real person
  • Archivable (e.g., screenshots, scans, public posts)
  • Consistent with any existing public information

PSD pages allow OHMS to document the many Ohio artists who never received mainstream press coverage or database listings.

While valid for historical preservation, PSD pages do not qualify for the Verified badge until independent sources corroborate the information.

🟥 3. Unverified / Insufficient Sources

Pages with no badge fall into this category.

These are artists who:

  • Have very limited available documentation,
  • Have only fragmentary or ambiguous information online, or
  • Cannot yet be supported with public primary or independent sources.

Unverified pages may exist as stubs, but they are not considered reliable until further evidence emerges.

🧭 Why This System Exists

The Ohio music ecosystem includes thousands of artists—from nationally recognized groups to house-show bands with no surviving flyers.

The Three-Tier Verification System ensures that:

  • Historically documented artists are fully verified,
  • Underground and undocumented artists are preserved responsibly,
  • No untraceable or private information enters the archive,
  • Readers can see immediately what level of evidence supports each page, and
  • Accuracy remains transparent, honest, and academically defensible.

This system protects the historical integrity of the OHMS Wiki while still allowing the Ohio scene’s most obscure and short-lived acts to be included.
