History

Howard was born in 1965 in Stockholm, Sweden. Four years later his family moved to Tokyo, Japan. The family learned to speak Japanese and Jeff went to a Japanese kindergarten. Spending time near the ocean, Jeff learned to swim, snorkel, and surf. He loved to surf and it was difficult for him to leave his friends in Japan. 1980 brought the family back to Akron, Ohio where he finished his high school education and graduated from Revere H.S. Settling into the Akron/Kent area, he worked several jobs, played guitar with local punk rock bands, "Flat Black" and "Hyper as Hell." He was very artistic and taught himself wood working--making jewelry boxes, tables and cabinets. He loved fishing and being with family and friends.

Death

Howard Jeffrey Hutchings died while surfing on the North Shore of Oahu on Feb. 23, 2012
